You will never believe where they grow leprosy

June 13, 2007

To quote my microbiology notes:

“Mycobacterium leprae (leprosy): Grown in armadillos.

Other than to say this sounds really horrible I do not know what else to say. Except–you know where they grow Treponema pallidum (syphillis)? Guess. Come on guess? If you are the first person to tell me I will send you a prize. Seriously. A prize of your very own.

DingDingDing….we have a weiner, I mean winner. Keith is the proud owner of an undisclosed prize. It will be mailed to your house within one week.

Congratulations Keith, I am so proud of you. xx

I know the bacterium can’t be grown in artificial media in the lab; it has to be injected into animals. Is that too general to win or do I get me some prizes?

More specific…but Keith is close….very close.

Seriously, no one is going to try to guess besides Keith? Keith is offically my best fun friend. And I never comment on my own blog and this seems really gay.

“Rabbit balls. I also have it on good authority that kidneys can be used. My co-workers think I am nuts. So to speak.

Incorrect specific detail. Think body part of animal.

In talking to some of my clinical buddies, they said that they usually saw the cultures grown in cute, fuzzy little bunnies. Well, they actually said rabbits, but you get the point. Does that make them clap rabbits?”
