How I learned to whistle

November 11, 2006

Wednesday night dinner at my grandparents house. We have just settled into our creamed cauliflower, steak and gravy with mashed potatoes and I can hardly contain my excitement. My grandfather, Poppy, is the best whistler on the whole planet. He can whistle whole songs with all the notes and is amazing. I have been practicing and practicing and burst out,

“Poppy, look, look, listen. I can whistle”

I do it and feel like a part of some grown up club. My mom and grandmother both congratulate me and tell me how nice I sound. My grandfather is laughing and says,

“Jesus, you look like a ducks ass.”
