The miraculous qualities of Blue Lipstick in a Blue Purse

August 10, 2006

Sometimes you present your child with a present that you have agonized over its choice. Selected and weighed options carefully. Thought and intent lay in every molecule of the gift.

Then sometimes you go to the dollar store to stock up on some crap to distract your kids during your 10hour car ride to hell, I mean, Cape Cod and let them choose one toy to have today and save the rest for later.

Who knew that a small blue fuzzy purse that appears to be from the hide of Cookie Monster and contains a vial of pale blue lipstick/chapstick that smells like fruity suntan lotion and 3 small plastic rings could bring such complete joy and happiness. As I busted the treasure from its cardboard and plastic wrapper…my daughter was LITERALLY….jumping from foot to foot in a sort of capitalistic jig, clapping her hands together ligthly and wore a crazed zombie grin on her blond and blue eyed face and whispered, “yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes…” Until I handed her the purse and  its contents.

On the way out of the car she had already misplaced the lipstick and when this horrible, terrible fate was realized, she screamed in our front yard until her Dad came back out and found her treasured cosmetic.

Why is she so easy to please some days and others when I tell her excitedly that we will make peanut butter cookies when we get home, she replies, face crumpled and tears coming to the rims of her eyes..”don’t mama, that will make me sad because Daddy likes peanut butter and he will eat them.”

OK…that is WAY too precious. So adorable! And yeah, there’s something to be said for being a little girl with a new purse and a new lipstick. Even if both are blue.

Blue is a lip color that flatters everyone; I can’t wait to see her in all of her blue-lipped glory.
